Privacy policy
Wrenchy: Car Service Log ("Wrenchy", "the app") is made by Inspiration Technologies Inc. ("we"). This policy explains what the app keeps on your phone, what it sends elsewhere, and why.
The short version
- No account. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your vehicles, service records, mileage, costs, notes, documents and photos are stored on your device. We do not receive them.
- The app sends usage events and crash reports, tied to a random ID, so we can see where the app fails or confuses people.
- We don't sell data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Stored on your device only
Everything you enter is kept in a database inside the app on your iPhone or iPad: vehicle details, odometer readings, services, fuel fill-ups, costs, notes, document details and photos. It is included in your device's iCloud or computer backup if you use one; that backup is between you and Apple. Deleting the app deletes this data. You can export it to a CSV file at any time from Settings.
Service reminders are scheduled on the device by iOS. Photos you add are copied into the app; Wrenchy reads only the photos you choose.
What leaves your device
Usage events (PostHog)
The app sends short event records to PostHog, our analytics provider, so we can see which steps people finish and which they skip. Examples: a screen in setup was reached, a plan was tapped, a service was logged. Events include:
- The event name and a few details, such as which type of service was logged and yes/no flags like "an odometer reading was entered". Never the reading itself, costs, notes, vehicle names or photos.
- A random ID created by the app (shared with RevenueCat, below, so a purchase can be matched to the events before it).
- App and device information: app version, device model, iOS version, language, and an approximate location (country and region) that PostHog derives from your IP address.
- Your answer to "How did you hear about Wrenchy?", if you give one.
Crash reports (Sentry)
When the app hits an error, it sends a report to Sentry: the error and where in the code it happened, the app version, device model and iOS version, and the same random ID. Crash reports do not include your records.
Purchases (Apple and RevenueCat)
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We never see your payment details. RevenueCat manages subscription status for us: it receives the random ID, your purchase and renewal history from Apple, and your answer to "How did you hear about Wrenchy?", if any.
Recall check (US vehicles only)
A vehicle's make and model are optional. If you enter both and your phone's region is the US or Puerto Rico, opening that vehicle's screen asks the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public recall service (api.nhtsa.gov) for open safety recalls on that model year. Only the make, model and year are sent; no ID or personal information. NHTSA sees the request come from your device's internet address, as with any website visit. Leave the make or model blank and no lookup happens.
Why we use this data
To run the subscription, fix crashes, and improve the app, for example by finding the setup step where people give up. We don't use it for advertising and we don't sell or share it for anyone else's marketing.
How long it's kept
Usage events and crash reports are kept for as long as our providers' plans retain them, and no longer than we need them to improve the app. Purchase records are kept as long as required for accounting and App Store records.
Your choices
- To delete everything on your device, delete the app.
- To ask us to delete usage events and crash reports linked to your app's ID, email support@wrenchyapp.com. Since we don't know who you are, tell us your device model and roughly when you used the app so we can find the right records.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to its use. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Children
Wrenchy is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If the app starts sending anything not described here, we will update this page and its effective date before or with the release that changes it.
